Konnikova’s essay explores the often negative effects social media has on human interaction skills. These skills, learned throughout our childhoods, include clear communication, face to face conversations, and identifying social cues. Repeated social media usage, according to Konnikova, can make “social skills not develop as effectively”(259). This diminishes brain growth and the ability to recognize conversational skills learned throughout childhood.
