Feminism and Visual Texts 10/14
Blog Post: Laura Mulvey’s theory of how visual pleasure is almost always accompanied by the objectification of women is shown in the shower clip from Psycho. Even when the main protagonist is being murdered, her naked body is the thing that the camera focuses on. This can be seen as “an abusive version of masculine heterosexuality”(Parker 176) through the gaze. While the focus is a female protagonist, we see her through a male gaze focused on her body.
QCQ: “There was a politics of the body, a politics of the female body”(Mulvey 2015). I found this to be very interesting and connected to the video clips. There will always be a focus on female bodies and how they fit into a male narrative. How does this thought dig into the societal pressure of being a female?
