Learning Outcome #4

Learning Outcome #4

Outcome 4 (Peer Review) – Be able to critique their own and others’ work by emphasizing global revision early in the writing process and local revision later in the process. (Word Count: 307)

I liked doing peer review. College peer review was much more helpful than high school as we focused on critiquing the content of the essay and how it related to the prompt rather than the little things such as grammar or sentence structure. It was helpful for me to leave feedback on my peer’s work as I could use my own advice on my work as well.

I think my comments for peer review were helpful to my peer as he conveyed to me he needed help with specifics, such as quote structure and the proportion of writer’s voice to summary. I tried to focus on those two things to be the best help that I could be. As for the peer review of my essay, I don’t have screenshots, however, I remember some of the comments he left me. There weren’t many as he said my essay was really good. That was nice on a surface level, but on a revision level it wasn’t very helpful as I didn’t know what to do to revise my essay. So, I took the comments I left on his essay to use them as guidelines for my own. I do think that this was helpful.

As for Essay #2, it was slightly harder to peer review as my peer had not fully finished his essay yet. I did the best with what I had by just commenting on what was there. For example, as shown above, I tried to focus on the proportion of the writer’s voice to the amount of summary that was there. That was easier to focus on as I could use my own comments to review my writing. Overall, peer review was not only helpful to my peers but also to me as I could use my own comments as guidelines for my final revisions.
