“I had a catching of the breath, and my skin went cold at the words, which were slowly uttered in a tone of concentrated resolution”(Doyle 3). This made me stop and think about the true genre of the detective novel. It is very descriptive in the area surrounding our main characters (Sherlock Holmes and John Watson). My question would be, how does the area/setting surrounding the main character add to their characterization?
