- Xenophobia is an irrational fear or dislike of people who are from different countries. It relates to Covid-19 as Asian people have been targets of violence since the beginning of the pandemic. Countries have placed bans/sanctions against people of Asian descent.
- Many victims of the prejudice and xenophobia felt afraid for their safety. As for the political factors, leaders (who held implicit and explicit bias) felt “afraid” for their countries. Even though they probably felt as if they were doing the right thing, these leaders held false beliefs about a group of people.
- The journalistic nature compares to Cadogan’s piece by still having first person accounts (Eunice and others). It portrayed the fear that was described in both pieces.
- Travel bans do not do as much good as they are thought to do. Yet some readers may challenge my view by stating that it would keep “unwanted” people out. In theory, this would be correct, but that is not the case here. Diseases spread even with travel bans. Keeping people out of a country just based on where they come from is not a preventative healthcare measure, it is a form of discrimination.
